The Bible on the Poor

I don't know what to think of this site yet because I haven't committed the time to properly read it and think about what it says. But it just seems so timely that this appeared to me because I was just having a conversation a few days back with a Brother-in-Christ about why God is unfair and this seems related. So I'll just put it here for easy reference when I decide to let my mind delve deeper into this issue.

Also, if any sibling-in-Christ chances upon this, please give me your opinion! I am not afraid to admit that I am still very weak in my understanding of the Bible.

"The speaker for the camp, Edmund, told us a story about the Olympics: A man called John was very amazed by the exhibition of human strength and perserverence of the athletes competing in the Olympics. As the runners pressed on towards the finishing line, he marvelled at their determination and will to win, and to push themselves beyond their limits to reach their lofty goals. One day, he went to watch the Special Olympics and watched intently as the handicapped participants ran off towards the finishing line as the gun went off. In the middle of the run, one of the participants keeled over, fell flat and started to bawl in pain. Immediately, all the other special athletes stopped, and turned behind. Unanimously, they all lifted him up and trudged with him towards the finishing line. That is sportsmanship. That is life and that is love.

It told me many things, particularly in my context I suppose. In medical school, I expect the atmosphere to be competitive and highly stressful. But at the end of the day, if we are truly God's children and totally trusting in Him, I suppose there is little need to join the rat race to win desperately. What's more important seems to be living a life of love that honours humanity and God's grace in our lives. I am not perfect and know deep down the challenge of honouring and practising this principle, for we have all fought for pyrrhic victories in our lives. But I am happy to have heard this story that touched my heart. I suppose winning is truly subjective, isn't it?"
